Functional & Clinical Nutrition

Functional nutrition takes food as medicine one step further, it individualises nutrition to best suit the your presenting complaints, treating the root cause of symptoms and living the mantra "an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of the cure"

Functional foods provide essential nutrition for the building blocks of a healthy and functional body. These foods are also known as whole foods, which are foods in their natural state. Functional nutrition also includes foods that have been extracted without damaging the important nutritional profile such as cold pressing, dehydrating or natural fermentation. Functional foods have not been refined or had any additives or synthetic preservatives used.

Refining foods such as wheat into, white flour, strips the once nutritious food of its minerals and trace minerals, vitamins, most of its fibrous content, protein and natural oils and many phytochemicals that support bodily function.

Without these essential nutrients the body compensates so it can maintain functional integrity by leeching minerals, vitamins and macronutrients from the bones and tissues, preceding metabolic conditions like hypertension, atherosclerosis, diabetes, functional disorders like menstrual irregularities,  fertility and gestational conditions, mood abnormalities, obesity and degenerative disease such as arthritis, cancer and heart disease.

These symptoms and conditions are seen as indications of underlying functional problems or system imbalances. Using funtional nutrition is a personalized, systems-based approach, which considers not just the type of dis-ease a person has but the type of person whom has the dis-ease

Initial consultations are approximately 70 minutes duration and are used to gather a thorough health history of yourself and your immediate families, from childhood to now, including any past or present medications, pregnancies and births. Our first visit is for me to come to an understanding on how you have reached this current state of health and to advise you of gentle dietary and lifestyle changes or supplements that can assist you to optimum health. You may or may not be asked to wait while I devise a presciption on intial and subsequent visits, this may or may not require estra time, depending on the concurrent conditions yo present with.

During the period before our next visit I research your presenting and past issues to further enhance our treatment plan for you. Complicated cases may incur a research fee which will be discussed with you at your second consultation
